In 1998 American International was awarded an extensive contract to begin the restoration of cast-in-place, concrete balconies for twin, 8-story condominium buildings located in northeast Ohio. Previous attempts by other contractors had been made to restore the aged balconies with little regard for long term success. With a new and aggressive approach for full scale restoration, and a staff and board of directors committed to the concept, American International has embarked on a yearly program of balcony restoration. Acacia on the Green poses unique and challenging obstacles while trying to complete the intensive balcony work. Situated within lavish
landscaping and a manicured setting, the location of the balconies within these areas has led AI to overcome concerns not always standard to the industry. With the immense size of the Acacia complex, issues of placing concrete pump and ready mix trucks and casting concrete up 8 stories is a challenge. It is within these types of seemingly insurmountable hurdles that AI functions the best. Forced to be creative and minimize the impact to Acacia’s residents, AI put together a thorough plan for maintaining and protecting the tenants and grounds while still completing the difficult removal and replacement of balconies.
